TED Talk – how to become a PMD expert in five minutes

Fost Plus pulled off a new campaign in October to encourage companies to sort more and better. Featuring a remarkable TED Talk by one Pierre-Marie Donckels - PMD to friends - which turns everyone into a true PMD expert in less than five minutes.
Pierre-Marie Donckels made his entrance as the main character in an earlier campaign for PMD Companies. Back then he was still a newcomer to the company, who was immediately embraced by his colleagues, because the PMD bag in the workplace, it just belongs.
Head of PMD
A year later, he appears to have worked hard on his career. Pierre-Marie has since made it to Head of PMD in the company where he works. In the new campaign video, we even see him hiring an assistant. But more importantly, he has now also launched his own TED Talk, in which he turns listeners into real PMD sorting experts in less than five minutes.
The main take-aways from his presentation? Empty your containers before sorting them at PMD and under no circumstances use grey or black bags to collect your PMD. Should not go to PMD: silicone tubes, polystyrene foam, batteries, electrical, pallet foils and plastic items that are not packaging. Recommendations that will take you a long way as a company to sort more and better.
Focus on quality
With the campaign, Fost Plus is broadening the focus of its communication to businesses: where initially the focus was on the sorting obligation per se, we are now placing more emphasis on the quality of the materials collected. This does not always prove evident in a business environment, as it often releases packaging that we are not familiar with at home.
The campaign is just the tip of the iceberg of our efforts in sorting on the shop floor. For instance, the welcome bonus for companies that start sorting will be extended until the end of 2024. Since the premium was introduced in 2019, we have already paid out 6,700 premiums in the meantime. And we are also focusing on enforcement: since 2021, together with OVAM, we have already carried out 1,200 inspections of companies.
Finally, we are also continuing to work on our sector-specific approach. Earlier this year, for instance, we launched an approach for hospitals, residential care centres and doctors' surgeries, including specific sorting rules for the medical sector and a tailor-made waste bin plan. Soon we will launch a similar approach for the catering industry. To be continued!
