A solid foundation for one uniform method
Today, cleanliness in Belgium is not measured in a uniform, objective way: each region applies its own approach. With this project, we want to move towards a single national methodology.
That's an ambitious goal, so we first looked for buy-in from various internal and external stakeholders. They are now part of the project through the steering group or the advisory committee.
We also built a project team with strong scientific and technical expertise: Möbius, Ghent University, Cortexia and VITO. That knowledge was complemented by the operational expertise of IVAGO, TIBI and Bruxelles-Propreté.
From theory to practice
During the preparatory phase, we analysed existing measurement methods, studied statistics and scientific literature, and consulted with many organisations. All that groundwork led to a measurement protocol: how much do we measure, where do we measure, when do we measure?
Now it's time to put that protocol into practice. Over the coming weeks, the first field tests will start, in collaboration with IVAGO, TIBI and Bruxelles-Propreté.
Where are we headed?
The outcome of this project should be a validated measurement method that we can — if desired — further operationalise. To be continued!
With this project, Fost Plus and its scientific and operational partners are taking an important step towards an objective, national view of cleanliness in public spaces.
