The current Managing Director of Fost Plus, William Vermeir, is to retire this year. The new top man will be Patrick Laevers. He is a civil engineer with wide-ranging experience in the environmental sector, including as Managing Director Belgium of Shanks Group and as Group Business Development Director of Renewi. Patrick Laevers is to be proposed as the new Managing Director in May and will take up his duties on 1 June 2018.
Stephan Windels, chairman of the Board of Directors:
“We would like to thank William Vermeir very much for his services to Fost Plus. Ever since it was established in 1994, he has helped the organisation to take shape, first as Director Projects, later on as Deputy General Manager and for the past eight years as Managing Director. Under his leadership, Fost Plus has developed into an efficient organisation and an international reference in the management of household packaging waste. For years now Belgium has recorded the best recycling results in Europe, with a level of cost efficiency that is the envy of other countries.
Patrick Laevers is joining the organisation at a time when the political context is turbulent. Society has high hopes as regards packaging management. To be able to evolve towards a circular economy, striving to achieve even better recycling results, more attention needs to be paid to the recyclability of packaging while the business world is seriously committed to reducing litter. Fost Plus wants to achieve this in open dialogue with all stakeholders, adopting a dynamic and cost efficient approach. The new Managing Director is taking over at the head of the organisation at a pivotal moment, because Fost Plus’s accreditation needs to be renewed at the end of the year.”
