On 20 March 2022, the Click will be present again during the Eneco Clean Beach Cup. At the incentive of Belgian and Dutch surfing and beach clubs, together we will clean up the beach along the North Sea. For the first time, those taking part will be able to click along the entire coastline. So good behaviour will be rewarded twice: with ‘karma points’ and with Circular UCoins for each piece of waste picked up and scanned in.
Rewarding good behaviour
The Click is a Fost Plus project with a twofold dynamic: making sure that litter is a thing of the past and recycling more packaging from out-of-home consumption. We do this by thanking people who display good behaviour. That means: throwing your own packaging or litter that you picked up in the right bin. Using the Click app, you can scan each piece of packaging or litter. If there is no barcode, take a photo. By doing so, you become part of the steadily growing group of clickers: 14,000 so far. There are already three communes at the coast where you can click all year round: Blankenberge, De Haan-Wenduine and Middelkerke. During the Eneco Clean Beach Cup you can click all along the coastline.
In addition, together with waste processor Renewi we make sure that all the litter collected is pre-sorted so that recyclable packaging material is separated from the residual waste. This packaging then follows the usual path through the recycling chain, together with the contents of the PMD bags collected door to door.
Wim Geens, Fost Plus Managing Director: “The cooperation with the organisation behind the Eneco Clean Beach Cup is a fine example of how a big company ‘clicks’. By integrating the Click into the Eneco Clean Beach Cup operation, we are giving litter collectors an extra boost. At the same time, we are working to increase awareness of the Click. Because thanks to the app, everyone can do the right thing, at any time, anywhere. This way, we are bringing about a lasting change in behaviour that will see litter banned from the street scene – and the sea – for good.”
In 2021, litter collectors were already able to click on the beach in Zeebrugge and De Haan. After a positive assessment of the previous event, this year the cooperation has been extended right along the coastline.
